Cowabunga dudes! I’ve just been out here vibin’ and riding gnarly waves waiting for the Tour de Turtles to kick off. I been studying up on the threat of illegal poaching of turtles for consumption. That’s right, some people want to eat us! Some ways to stop this scary practice are to support government-imposed limits on consumption, patrol beaches at night for poachers, educate the public about how important turtles are to the ecosystem, and create eco-tourism programs like the Sea Turtle Conservancy has in Tortuguero, where I’m from! Thousands of visitors come to Tortuguero every year to witness sea turtles nest, and the economy in Tortuguero thrives off of it! By moving from the consumptive use of sea turtles to eco-tourism, STC has found that green turtles like me are worth much more alive than dead. Pura vida!
I was named by my Sponsor,
Sea Turtle Conservancy. Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim to raise awarness about the threat of Adult Harvest for Consumption to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
