Hola, mi nombre es Jujube, like the tasty fruit from a date tree! That’s because I’m sweet, just ask my loving sponsors at Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas. They’ve supported leatherbacks like me for the past nine years in the Tour de Turtles program! They know all about the joys of island life – living off the catch of the day, freshly picked fruit, and a healthy dose of daily sunshine, just like the natives do where I’m from in Panama! But lately, my friends back home and I have been seeing some odd-looking jellyfish at our beaches…and the ocean is full of them! They are tasteless and rubbery... yuck! These weird jellyfish have made some of my friends very sick, so I always avoid eating them. My friends at Atlantis say they find them on their beaches too and they aren’t jellyfish at all, but plastic bags!! Plastic is being used by the tourists and people who live on their island for everything - even their food is wrapped in plastic! That sounds kind of gross to me! Atlantis is partnering with us this year to take a stand to keep oceans free of all plastic debris. Cheer me on along my migration to keep beaches everywhere clean!
I was named by my Sponsor,
Atlantis Paradise Island. Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim to raise awarness about the threat of Plastic Debris to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
