My name is Odyssey and I’m the most audacious loggerhead you’ll ever meet! I’ve spent the past 30 years traveling and adventuring around amazing places like the Bahamas and The Florida Keys. I recently nested on a beautiful beach in the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge and once I got word that there was an open spot in the Tour de Turtles, I just knew I had to join. My new human friends at Ripley’s Aquariums also asked for my help to raise awareness about a serious threat… Beach erosion. Now, I’m not really scared of much, but doesn’t that sound frightening? Almost half of Florida’s nesting beaches are critically eroded. Beach renourishment is the primary strategy to combat coastal erosion in Florida. While this can help, it must be carried out correctly and under strict guidelines that ensure the "new beach" is compatible for successful nesting. STC is keeping a close eye on things at home, so I think it’s about time for me to jet on outta here and spread the word!
I was named by my Sponsor,
Ripley's Aquariums. Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim to raise awarness about the threat of Beach Erosion to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
