Hey there! I’m Sally, and I am really excited to be racing in the Tour de Turtles this year to raise awareness about light pollution. I love to come up and lay my eggs on Vero Beach, especially in front of Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. It’s so relaxing and serene because there are no glaring lights, which provides a natural ambiance and makes the already difficult process of laying eggs just a little nicer. Buildings on the beach with glaring lights can make it confusing for me, but even more so for my little hatchlings! I want the best for my babies, and I don’t want them crawling into the dunes where they would get into big trouble, when they should be making their way straight to the ocean.  Thanks to Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment, and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, many guests are being educated on the dangers of artificial lighting and how they can help. You can help by turning lights off during nesting season or by using sea turtle friendly bulbs and fixtures. And please keep flashlights off the beach at night too. Trust me, you humans have way better night vision than I do.

I was named by my Sponsor, Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment & Disney's Vero Beach Resort. Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim to raise awarness about the threat of Light Pollution to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
