My name is "Belle o' Brevard," but my friends just call me "Belle." I'm an adult female loggerhead sea turtle encountered nesting on July 30, 2008, in the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Florida. I am a very large loggerhead, measuring 113 cm in curved carapace (shell) length.
A satellite transmitter was applied to my shell after I finished nesting. You can watch when I was released the next morning from the Barrier Island Environmental Ecosystem Center. Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim.
I'm being sponsored by MeGotta and Shark Reef Aquarium, and I'm swimming to raise awarness about the threat of Coastal Development to nesting females and especially to emerging hatchlings. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
